Enter DVs above to calculate Hidden Power type and power.
Max power of 70 requires all four DVs to be β₯8 and Special DV mod 4 = 3 (so DV 15 or 11).
Note: In Gen 2, Hidden Power's base power ranges from 31β70 (unlike Gen 6+ which fixed it at 60).
The type cycles through 16 types (not Normal).
HP Up β HP Β· Protein β Atk Iron β Def Β· Calcium β SpAtk Zinc β SpDef Β· Carbos β Spe Vitamins stop once a stat reaches 25600 Stat Exp (10 per stat).
Best Stat Exp Farms
Chansey (Routes 13β15) β huge HP base Tauros β high Atk/Spe Snorlax β all-rounder Elite Four loops β best post-game
Gen 2 Stat Exp quirk: The Stat Exp bonus is floor(sqrt(StatExp)) / 4, then added before the level multiplier. Because the bonus is square-rooted, the first few thousand Stat Exp matter much more than the last β getting to ~25,000 is most of the practical benefit. There's no equivalent to a "252/252/6" EV split in Gen 2; instead, you simply battle anything for general gains, and use vitamins to top off specific stats.
In Gen 2, a parent holding Everstone has a 50% chance to pass its Nature to the offspring.
π₯ HATCH COUNTER
Steps = walking while egg is in party. Flame Body / Magma Armor halves this. (Note: Abilities don't exist in Gen 2 β egg-hatch speed is fixed per species.)
A quick-start guide to how Gen 2 actually plays: where to heal, how encounters work, when to fish or surf, and what matters early.
MISSABLES & ONE-TIME EVENTS
Everything you can permanently miss or only get once β check them off as you go. Progress saved locally per game.
RIBBON TRACKER
All obtainable ribbons in Gold, Silver and Crystal β including Crystal's Battle Tower ribbon. Check them off as you earn them; progress is saved per-game.
Link Cable Required: Gen 2 trades require two Game Boy / Game Boy Color systems + a Game Link Cable. Alternatively, use a single emulator with two ROM instances and a virtual link cable (supported in BGB, mGBA, SameBoy, etc.).
POSSIBLE IN GEN 2 GBC GAMES
GEN 3+ ONLY (NOT POSSIBLE IN GEN 2)
These trade evolutions were introduced in later generations. Listed here for reference when planning a multi-gen living Dex.
